William Joseph Scott, "Bill," a life long resident of Brookline, MA, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2022. He was 87 years old. Mr. Scott was born on December 12, 1934 in Newton, MA. His father, Joseph Scott, originally of County Down, Northern Ireland, was a landscape architect and recipient of numerous "E" Medals in World War II for his work at the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy, MA; his mother, Mary Lillian Connolly, originally hailed from Prince Edward Island, Canada. He lived with and cared for both his parents throughout their lives. His only sibling, Liz Carter, passed away on May 29, 2015. Mr. Scott was a graduate of Brookline High School in Brookline, MA in 1952, and subsequently attended Northeastern University in Boston, MA. Mr. Scott was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1954, with the rank of Private Fist Class, having served at the Trios Fontaines Ordnance Depot in France. Mr. Scott worked at Microwave Development Laboratories and attended computer classes at Honeywell Institute for Information Sciences. He began a 32-year career at the Cambridge Trust Company in 1970 in computer operations. Mr. Scott was very active within the congregation of St. Lawrence's Catholic Church in Brookline, and served as a Eucharistic Minister there. He was instrumental in helping that church survive a mandated closing during the diocese crisis in the early part of the millennium, participating in rallies and holding vigils. For his efforts, he was presented the prestigious Cheverus Award by Cardinal O'Malley in 2010. Mr. Scott is survived by his nephew Peyton Carter of Chestnut Hill, MA, and his two grand-nephews, Parker and Peyton. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Lawrence's Church in Brookline on Thursday, July 7th at 10:00 a.m., with interment to follow at Holyhood Cemetery in Chestnut Hill.
