"Bill" Heavey

William M. (Bill) Heavey, 87, passed away on Saturday, December 31. Born in Boston, Bill lived in Brookline, Natick and Chestnut Hill, MA then moved to Bonita Springs, Florida for 25 years until recently moving back to Peabody, MA. While in Massachusetts, Bill was an active golfer, member of Charles River CC, Boston sports fan and coach. In Florida Bill continued to work on his golfing skills as a member of Shadow Wood CC in Bonita Springs where he enjoyed getting away from Boston's cold winters and playing golf with his many friends. Later in life he also enjoyed spending summers with family in Andover, MA and Wells, Maine.
Bill graduated from St. Mary's High School in Brookline and Boston College in 1957. A proud "Eagle" he wore his Maroon and Gold often. After graduation, Bill served in the U.S. Marines and U.S. Marine Corp Reserve as a 1st Lieutenant and Captain in places such as San Diego and Okinawa, Japan. After leaving the service, Bill spent much of his career in group sales at Connecticut General Insurance then Cigna Insurance company working with large New England clients.
In addition to his career accomplishments, Bill was known to many as a fierce golf competitor rising to the occasion in golf tournaments with friends, children, grandchildren, his brother, and nephews. One of Bill's fondest golf memories was a trip to Ireland with three generations of Heaveys including his two sons, one of his grandsons, two nephews and his brother. Bill was very generous to his family with Ireland and US trips and assisting with education which was important to him.
Bill is survived by his three children and their spouses, Blair and Nicolette Heavey of Ipswich, MA, Dennis and Andrea Heavey of Hopkinton, MA and Le and Keith Chaney of North Andover, MA. In addition, Bill was known as "Papa" by his eight grandchildren, Ryan Heavey and his wife Cassandra, Kelsey Heavey and her fiancé Dave Grotz, Devon Heavey, Brent Heavey, Kyle Heavey, Anna Heavey, Carter Chaney and Nina Chaney. Bill is survived by two sisters, Mary Mooney Webster and Patricia Caulfield, his brother "Buddy" Heavey and his wife "Pie", and many nieces and nephews. Bill is pre-deceased by his ex-wife Mandy Heavey, his partner Marilyn O'Dell and parents Michael and Nora Heavey.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Bell O'Dea Funeral home in Brookline, MA. A wake will be held Thursday, January 5 from 4-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 6 at the Church of St. Lawrence, in Brookline, MA at 11am followed by burial service at St. Joseph's Cemetery in West Roxbury, MA and a Celebration of Life in Dedham, MA.
