(ret.) Of The Villages, FL., formerly of Brookline and Framingham passed away on January 15, 2022. Loving father of Kerry Donnelly Chevalier of The Villages, FL.,formerly Framingham and Maine, and Jen "Jenny" Donnelly Gareau of Grafton, formerly Framingham. Devoted son of the late Walter F. Donnelly, Helen "Chickie" (Gallagher) Gowen and her late husband, Richard "Dick" Gowen. Former husband and friend of Patricia A. "Pam" (Murphy) Donnelly. Dear brother of Ann DeVere and her husband Jim of Taunton, Helen Donnelly of Bellingham, Barbara and her husband Michael Curran (d. 2016) of Franklin and the late Stephen Donnelly. Cherished Pa of Brittany, Jackie, MacKenzie, Chloe and Corrie and adored Great Pa of Ava, Jeremy, James, Joseph, Ariella, Avery, Elizabeth and Oliva. Also survived by his aunt Agnes Rogers, nieces Missy and Shaina Curran as well as his Band of Brothers to whom he was warmly known as "Ollie", his daughter Kerry's longtime partner, Terry "Mountain Man" Curran whom he considered a dear friend as well as many cousins. Walter proudly served his country as a Paratrooper with the 101st Airborne/Screaming Eagles in Vietnam, 1964-1966 and honorably discharged in 1969. Upon his return, he was appointed Firefighter to the Brookline Fire Dept. in March of 1969, moving up the ranks becoming Lieutenant in '78, Captain '82, Deputy Chief '85 and retiring in May 2007. Walter and his dear friend and business partner, Peter Brennan, founded Top It Firefighter School, est. 1984 with locations across Massachusetts and continued selling their study guides across the United States until 1999. He was Kerry and Jenny's hero and has left a void that will forever remain in their hearts. Funeral from the Bell-O'Dea Funeral Home, 376 Washington St., Brookline, Tuesday morning at 9:00 followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Brookline at 10:00. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours in the funeral home on Monday from 3:00 - 7:00. (Facial coverings will be required in both the funeral home and church.) Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Walnut Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations made to St. Jude's Children Hospital - a charity Walter was fond of.
