Tim Hanson died the afternoon of December 2, 2021 in Brookline MA after a six-year bout with prostate cancer, a battle he fought with the same grace, spiritual strength and determination with which he lived his life. He had just celebrated his 60th birthday. He leaves behind his wife Alida Welzer Hanson and his daughters Mary Therese Hanson and Margaret Ann Hanson. Tim is predeceased by his parents, Joan Black Hanson and John Kearns Hanson. He is mourned by his sister Mary Katharine Hanson, known always as Kate, and brothers John Kearns Hanson Jr. and Mark Thaddeus Hanson. Tim also leaves his mother and father in-law Frank and Ann Welzer, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Tim received excellent care from Dr. Kenneth Pienta of Johns Hopkins, Dr. Himisha Beltran of Dana Farber, all staff at the hospitals, as well as Care Dimensons Hospice. Tim had many facets to his life: husband, father, brother, son, son in-law, corporate executive, musician, athlete, animal lover, friend and mentor to many. While his family came first, he lived all aspects of his life with zest. He was generous, well read, and had a sharp sense of humor. He was a man of God, and he lived his life trying to be true to that calling. Timothy Augustine Hanson was born on October 14, 1961 and was raised in Rumson, NJ. He graduated as a violinist from the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford. Next, he turned his musical mind to the rigors of Wall Street and retired as a well-respected Managing Director of JPMorgan Chase & Company. No one worked harder than Tim and he mentored many colleagues throughout his career. As a young man, Tim struggled with substance abuse. Through the fellowship of AA he got sober and he lived its principles in all of his affairs. Some of his favorite meetings in NY were Commuter's Special, The Dignitaries, and Path to Serenity in Hoboken. Tim had many lifelong friends he met through AA including his wife Alida. They were married on June 25, 1994 in Rumson, lived in Manhattan and Maplewood NJ, then settled and raised their family in Brookline and Marshfield, MA. Tim was an accomplished musician. Besides his first love, the violin, he played the mandolin, concertina and ukulele. Over the last year, Tim recorded an Irish jig or hornpipe every day and shared it via text with his family and friends, brightening every morning. Tim was a waterman. He loved to surf and paddle. Short board, long board, stand-up board, he mastered them all and caught some amazing waves this past September. Tim also participated in the Cape Cod Bay Challenge, a long-distance paddle on the South Shore of MA. The challenge raises funds for Christopher's Haven, a Boston based charity that provides housing for families of children receiving cancer treatment in area hospitals. All are invited to his wake on December 10 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Bell-O'Dea Funeral Home in Brookline. Mass will be held Saturday, December 11, at 1:00 pm at St. Mary's Church in Brookline.
