DOHERTY, Thomas C. "Tompa" Of Waltham formerly of Brookline passed away peacefully on February 6, 2023. Loving son of the late Julia and Neal Doherty Dear brother of Bernard J. "Brian" of Winthrop, Katherine Weinberger of Ashland, Neal Jr. of No. Attleboro and Annmarie Doherty of Brookline. Cherished uncle of Kelly Kaminski and her husband Steve and their son Sam, Brianna Doherty and Neal Doherty, III. Also survived by his aunts, uncles and cousins located worldwide.After graduating Brookline High School Tom went on to attend UMass Amherst where he was a standout Lacrosse Player. He later joined the U.S. Army where he spent 3 years as a military policeman stationed in Germany. Upon his return from the service, he made Waltham his home. He earned a blackbelt in Karate and was an instructor at a Karate Club in Waltham. He also coached and was an instructor to many youths in the lacrosse. Tom retired from the U.S.P.O in 2021. A devout Catholic, Tom enjoyed his mass, prayers and devotion. Funeral from the Bell-O'Dea Funeral Home, 376 Washington St., Brookline on Monday morning at 9:10 followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Brookline at 10:00. Relatives and friends are kindly invited Visiting hours in the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 – 5:00. Interment Walnut Hills Cemetery. Flowers welcomed, but if desired a donation in Tom's name may be made to St. Mary's Building Fund, 5 Linden Pl., Brookline, MA. 02445.
