Theresa M. (Melanson) Cavicchi. Of Brookline, formerly of Walpole and Dorchester passed away peacefully on May 2, 2024 with her loving family by her side. She was 91. Born March 23,1933, Theresa was the daughter of the late Harry and Salenier (Bourque) Melanson. She was from a large family, the youngest of three girls and seven boys, all of whom passed before her. She was born and raised in Dorchester until her marriage to Robert W. Cavicchi Sr. The couple settled in Walpole, where they raised their family. In her later years, she was a resident of Brookline. Theresa was a longtime employee of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, where she enjoyed a successful career.

Theresa was best known for her friendly and outgoing nature, her feisty determination, and generous spirit. She made friends easily and was always the first person to approach new people and break the ice to welcome them. She enjoyed a good laugh and had friends everywhere, and they loved her as well. One of Theresa's proudest successes was being honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Brookline community where she lived.

For all her life, Theresa was an avid reader, and devoured books of all genres. She had her local bookstore maintain a reserve list of her favorite authors. This ensured she would never miss a new and forthcoming book. A master at fudge-making, during the winter holidays, everyone looked forward to receiving the decorative tin filled with her famous chocolate fudge. A long-time knitter, Theresa's children fondly recall the extra thick mittens she skillfully hand-knitted, using four needles. Later in life, she knitted blankets to donate to people living with cancer. She served her church over many years by volunteering with the ladies' group to support the daily operations, which included preparing youth members with their communion and confirmation studies.

Theresa was a skilled piano player, often at the center of the party, she knew all the songs, old and new, and sang with passion and joy. A big fan of music, she frequently attended concerts and saw some of the best performers. Theresa delighted in seeing all the new movies, and regularly attended live stage theater in Boston and New York City. A longtime devotee of football, her excitement for the New England Patriots was more than a passion, it was an obsession. She proudly displayed the team's winning Superbowl flags on her car, all six of them! People who knew Theresa, knew her love of Pinocchio, her "seventh child."

Her family will be forever grateful for the gift of sharing in much of the journey of her life and will always cherish her memory. Her spirit will be kept alive and remembered by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as a community that was better for her being there. Her presence will be deeply missed, the beauty of a life well-lived, the lives she touched, and the love she shared.

Theresa was the beloved wife of the late Robert W. Cavicchi Sr. She was a devoted mother to six children: Christine Adams and her husband Ernie; Robert Cavicchi Jr.; Ayn Cavicchi and her partner Sandra Kosta; Steven Cavicchi and his wife Lisa; Scott Cavicchi; and Jeanne Semrani. Theresa especially loved her roles as Nana and Great Nana, adoring her four grandchildren: Molly Cavicchi; Angela Cavicchi; Robert Cavicchi; Melissa McDonald and her husband Scott; Rebecca LaFond and her husband Brandon. And she cherished her three great grandchildren: Jackson and Lucy McDonald, and Owen LaFond. Also survived by her sisters-in-law, Corinne Cavicchi and Margaret Cavicchi Cook, and her dear caregiver and friend, Aicha Chérif.

Services to honor and celebrate the life of Theresa Cavicchi will be held at Bell-O'Dea Funeral Home, 376 Washington Street, Brookline. Visiting hours at the Bell-O'Dea Funeral Home will be held Thursday, May 9, from 3:00 – 7:00 pm. A final viewing will be held on Friday, May 10 at 10:00 am, followed by a procession from the funeral home to the Funeral Mass at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 5 Linden Place (at Harvard St.), Brookline at 11:00 am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment is at Blue Hills Cemetery, Braintree.
