Sandra James, 83, most recently of Brighton, MA, passed away on May 25th at her home, surrounded by her husband Lloyd and younger son Brett. She had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 2 weeks prior. Her family was at peace knowing she was never in pain throughout her final days.

Sandra was born in New York to Hannah and Morton Silverstein on October 20, 1938. An only child, she attended James Monroe High School in the Bronx, where she met a dashing upperclassman, (Lloyd) Henry James. One year after graduating with a diploma in 1957, Sandy and Hank married and settled in Kew Gardens, Queens. They lived there for 3 years before moving out to Long Island, where they raised their two sons, Craig and Brett. Sandra enjoyed needlepoint and gardening, and was known to maintain meticulous grounds wherever she called home, whether it was their house in Plainview, their first apartment in Woodbury, or their second one in Islip Terrace. She had a soft spot for animals, and owned two cats over her adult lifetime – Cali and Velvet. With Lloyd working late afternoon and evening hours, or traveling,

Sandra was a mainstay at her children's athletic activities, occasionally the sole Plainview parent at away games – sometimes in blanket-wrapping, early-season temperatures. After raising her children, she worked as a secretary in temp roles for a variety for manufacturing companies. She was a devoted wife and a loving and nurturing mother, always there to offer a comforting shoulder or a word of motherly wisdom to her boys when needed.

Sandra is survived by her husband, Lloyd (Uncle Hank), his children, Craig and Brett, and her 3 grandchildren, Zach, Juliana, and Caroline. She will be buried in the same plot as her mother, who passed away in 2004, at New Montefiore Cemetery, where a graveside service will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, June 3rd. Shiva will be held at the home of her son Brett, in Commack New York, after the service. The family requests any donations in Sandra's honor be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
