Robert (Bob) Lindsey Phillips, 77, of Brookline and Framingham, passed away unexpectedly at home on February 15, 2025. He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years Joan (Gannon) of Brighton; his daughter Sara and her husband Brad, granddaughters Natalie and Lila of Arlington, VA; brother Charles (Chuckie) Phillips of Brookline; sisters Susan Phillips of Centerville and Marianne Donnelly and her husband, Ed of Plum Island; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Doris (Flynn) of Brookline; brothers John (Johnny) Phillips of Brookline, William (Billy) Phillips of Plum Island, and Carol (Philips) Teel of Amesbury/Salisbury.

Born in Boston on June 11, 1947, Bob grew up on White Place in Brookline Village and attended St. Mary's Catholic School and Catholic Memorial High School. He answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1964. A member of the U.S. Army 5th Special Forces Group, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a Ranger and Special Forces Green Beret. He was awarded the Bronze Star with clusters, the Purple Heart with clusters, Airborne Wings, the Combat Infantry Badge, and received the Vietnamese Cross for Gallantry from the Vietnamese government. Bob worked for the MBTA for over 30 years, retiring in 1995 as Superintendent of the Rapid Transit line. Bob was a gentle soul with a big heart, generous spirit, and an incredible sense of humor. He was a fierce protector of his family took care of the people he loved – opening his home for anyone in need – and showed his love through food. Bob believed in the power of kindness and compassion. He loved his canine companions and was the best Dog Dad ever. A Funeral Service with Military Honors will be held on Thursday March 27th at 11:00 AM in the Maguire Chapel at St. Joseph Cemetery, 990 LaGrange St., West Roxbury.  Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. ( Please go directly to the chapel. )
