Obituary

BURNS, Owen A. Of Brookline passed away on March 9, 2023. He is survived by his brother Maurice Burns and his wife Ellen of Dedham, his sister Vaughan Nesslar and her late husband Louis of Evanston, Illinois, his sister Terri Ann Vivenzio of Belchertown MA. He is predeceased by his parents Maurice Burns Sr., and Marian (John Doherty), as well as his sister Marian Burns. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Owens funeral mass on Wednesday May 3rd, 2023, at 10 AM in Saint Marys of the Assumption Church, 5 Linden Place, Brookline. Interment private.

Owen was the youngest of five siblings and grew up in Brookline. He attended the Brookline Public Schools and graduated from Brookline High School in 1967. Owen was a precocious child and charmed the visitors to Nantucket Island each summer when he met the cruise ships coming into the harbor to hand out menus to Lucky Pierre's – a family restaurant where everyone in the Doherty / Burns family pitched in to help. It was an idyllic place to spend their summers. He was a Newton police officer for twelve years but left the force to become a professional caddie on the PGA tour. He was known as "Jazz Man" on the tour and caddied for many well-known professional golfers. He eventually returned to Massachusetts and was residing in Brookline at the time of his passing. To the best of his ability, he was always there to lend a helping hand to someone in need.
