O. Helena "Ollie" Sweeney, 91 of Newburyport, formerly of Brookline died peacefully, Friday, May 20, 2016 in Newburyport. She was born December, 12, 1924 in Roxbury, Ma. daughter of the late Lloyd Harry and Anna Margaret (MacDonald) Ramsdell. A graduate of Hyde Park High School Class of 1941, she did her nurse's training at Parkway Hospital (now Brigham & Women's). During her long nursing career, she worked at the Parkway, Lying-In, Deaconess Hospitals and retired from the Brookline Hospital. Ollie also delighted in nursing the neighborhood children. Ollie shared 57 years of marriage with the love of her life John J. "Jack" Sweeney in his hometown of Brookline. She was the loving mother of Margaret "Peggy" Lucey and husband Fred of Newburyport, cherished grandmother of Brieanne Matter and husband Dave Matter of San Rafael, Ca, dear "big" sister of Alan Ramsdell and his wife Mary Jo of Mesa, Arizona, and dear sister-in-law of Penny Ramsdell of Baton Rouge, LA. She is also survived by several generations of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by her brothers, the Reverend Earle Ramsdell, Lloyd Ramsdell, Jr, Robert Ramsdell, and her sister Dorothy Izzo. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing the piano which she learned from her mother, and shared her quilting and knitting with her friends. In her retirement, she began painting and for over 25 years shared her reproduced winter and holiday scenes as cards with her many family and friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 25th, in the Bell-O'Dea Funeral Home, 376 Washington St., BROOKLINE (parking in the rear) from 11:00 AM -12:00 PM with a Funeral Service at 12:00 PM led by the Reverend Dr. Douglas Scalise of the Brewster Baptist Church. Relative and friends are kindly invited. Interment Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 2:15 PM.
