MELVIN, Noreen M. of Brookline entered into eternal rest on September 10, 2024. Devoted daughter of the late Timothy J.and Bridie (Mulkerrin) Melvin of Galway, Ireland. Dear sister of the late Timothy J. Melvin. Noreen is survived by many beloved cousins here and in Ireland as well as many lifelong friends.

Born on January 23, 1944 in Boston, Massachusetts, Noreen graduated from Mission High School and earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Emmanuel College in Boston. She went on to study French at La Sorbonne in Paris, France. She later became a French teacher at Malden High School where she was beloved by her many students until her retirement in 2005. Irish step dancing was her true passion. She began dancing at a young age under the direction of the late Maureen Hansen Keohane. Noreen later became certified to teach dance as a TCRG and also received her ADCRG from Ireland allowing her to adjudicate across the country. Noreen's kindness and integrity were highly regarded across the Irish dance community. She will always be remembered as a loving friend, a compassionate teacher and a gentle spirit who helped shape hundreds of students who came into her classroom and dance hall over her lifetime.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Noreen's funeral mass at St. Mary of The Assumption, 3 Linden Place, Brookline, MA, on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in St.Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury, MA.
