Obituary

Nicholas "Nick" Winslow, age 41, of Sandwich, MA, passed away peacefully at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston on April 5, 2021 from complications after a stroke. Nick was born in Newton, MA on August 18, 1979 to John and Linda (Baima) Winslow. He was a 1998 graduate of Millis High School, and went on to earn an undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2003, where he double majored in linguistics and psychology. Nick completed his first master's degree in linguistics at Utrecht University in the Netherlands and received his second master's in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) from Simmons College. From early on, Nick's genius was apparent to everyone around him: before turning three, he was reading books to his parents, and, soon after, he starred in his elementary school play. As a high school student, he continuously won his hometown version of Jeopardy each year until no one in town was willing to compete against him. Nick is fondly remembered for his love and encyclopedic knowledge of both the arts and the sciences. His interests were vast, ranging from the academic to the esoteric: cult classic films, underground music, local coffee shops, the arcane, and the macabre. He would have done just as well acting or directing on Broadway as he would have as scientist at NASA. Nick will be remembered by his twin sisters (Kati & Lauren) and all who loved him for his kindness, curiosity, quick wit, charm, humor, and, above all, his theatrics. "The flame that burns Twice as bright burns half as long." —Lao Tzu The Winslow family wishes to thank his healthcare team at BIDMC for their compassionate care of Nick during his five-month stay in the Advanced Heart Failure ICU and Farr 3. A memorial service will be held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Wednesday, May 5th at Bell-O'Dea Funeral Home, 376 Washington Street, Brookline, MA. Donations in memory of Nick can be made to the Heart Brothers Foundation (www.heartbrothers.org).
