It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ming Yi Wang, who died peacefully at home on August 30, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 82 years old.

Born in Taiwan on September 9, 1943, Ming was the youngest of six children and came from a long family line of physicians. As a young man after he completed his bachelor’s degree at National Cheng Kung University, he made the courageous decision to leave Taiwan on his own and travel to the United States to pursue graduate studies in civil engineering at the University of Washington.

Following his education, Ming built a distinguished career in transportation engineering. As a co-owner of a successful engineering company, he took tremendous pride in helping design and complete many large and essential infrastructure projects throughout the greater Seattle region. An engineer both by profession and by nature, Ming had an extraordinary ability to understand how things worked. To his family and friends, there seemed to be almost nothing he could not fix.

Ming’s legacy cannot be measured simply by his professional accomplishments or the things he built. His greatest legacy is found in the lives of the people he loved.

Practical, quietly determined, and blessed with a wonderful sense of humor, Ming was a profoundly loving man. He expressed that love not through grand gestures, but through his unwavering devotion to his family, his friends, and his community. He was someone others could depend upon—a steady and reassuring presence who was always there when he was needed.

Ming loved tennis and, later, golf, and spent countless days playing with a close group of friends who became an enduring part of the fabric of his life. He treasured those friendships, just as he treasured the time spent with his family.

Ming is survived by his beloved wife, Su Jin Wang; his son, Brad Wang, and Brad’s partner, Cindy Tran; his daughter, Dr. Sally Wang Mithoefer, and son-in-law, Dr. Kai Mithoefer; his cherished grandchildren, Hunter, Cooper, and Calina; his sisters, Fu Mei (Charles) Chiang and Amy Wang; and many nieces and nephews.

His family will deeply miss his wit, his reliability, his quiet strength, his remarkable memory, and his ability to fix just about anything. Most of all, they will miss the comforting certainty that came from simply having him there—the feeling that if Ming was present, everything would somehow be taken care of.

Ming lived his life with quiet purpose, loyalty, humor, and love. The bridges he helped build throughout his professional life will endure for generations, but the most meaningful connections he built were between people: his family, his friends, and the community that surrounded him. Those bonds, and the memories created through a life well lived, will remain his lasting legacy.
