MORENO, Michael C. Of West Roxbury, formerly of Brookline. Devoted son of the late Ernest and Eileen E. (Smith) Moreno passed away peacefully on Friday May 31, 2024. Born on August 21, 1940 in New York City, Mike was the brother of Daniel C. Moreno and his wife Lana of Potomac, MD., Ernest C. Moreno and his wife Helaine of Savannah, GA., Ray Moreno and his wife Patricia of Needham, Jeffrey Moreno and his wife Ann of Natick and Marshfield, Luisa R. (Moreno) Downing of Bradenton, FL., and the late CAR/KIA Sgt. John H. Moreno, United States Marine Corps., Linda E. Moreno of Natick and Ramona E. (Moreno) D'Andragora of Waltham.
Mike was a terrific uncle to his 23 nieces and nephews, and to his 33 great nieces and nephews. He was a good and generous friend to all who knew him.
Mike graduated from Brookline High School, where he was a star athlete in both track and football. Upon graduation he joined the U.S. Navy, and during his six-years of service he became an avionics radar technician. He attained the rank of Petty Officer 2/C during the Cuban Missile Crisis. During this time he was stationed on numerous naval air bases. After his military service he joined the Brookline Fire Department, serving as a Firefighter for 32 years.
Mike will be sorely missed by his family and many, many friends. It can be said of Mike that he never met a stranger and will likely never be forgotten by anyone he met.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday June 11, 2024 in St. Joseph Cemetery, 990 La Grange St., West Roxbury at 11:00 AM for a presentation of colors. All of Mike's friends who wish to attend are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation, 12151 Avenue of the Chiefs, Crazy Horse, SD. 57730-8900.
