Luz Helena originated from Medellín, Colombia, taking her melodic accent, charm and joie de vivre to her new home in Boston and on her travels worldwide.

Settling in Boston in the late 70s, she studied English then interior design — Luz adorned spaces as beautifully as she always adorned herself, with elegance and glamour.

She always sought out the best for her two daughters, Michelle and Jackie, who in return gave what she called her best gifts in her 82 years of life—her 4 grandchildren: Christian, Juliet, Violet and Lyla. They were the grand fireworks in the show of her life.

She'd often say: "I love it when people are kind." The same kindness she admired in others was a reflection of her own beautiful and generous heart. Her name Luz in Spanish means light—she was aptly named as she was a resplendent light in this world—radiating warmth and joy.

She had a strong circle of friends who she cherished dearly. She was immensely proud of her resilient family and siblings who helped raise her. Loving sibling of Juan Manuel, Stella, Clara Ines Garcia, and the late Jorge Horacio, Carlos Alberto and Luis Eduardo. Beloved mother of Michelle, her husband Christian, their son Christian; and Jackie and her 3 daughters Juliet, Violet and Lyla. Luz Helena outlived her medical prognosis by years thanks to her unwavering courage, humor and love.

A visitation will be held at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Brookline on Saturday January 11 from 10:00 am, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
