Leonard "Lenny" Charles LeFort passed peacefully on May 22, 2019 in Chestnut Hill, MA at the age of 62. Leonard was born to the late Sofie Florence and Charles LeFort on August 29, 1956 in Montreal, Canada. As a young child he moved to Brighton, Massachusetts with his mother. After graduating from Brookline High School in 1974; he joined the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1976. He married Aida Navales, in Angeles City, Philippines, in 1976. They had two sons; Jaimy Leonard LeFort (Tya Fernandes) of Boston, Massachusetts and Joseph Robert LeFort of San Diego, California and six stepchildren; Marliefei Coper (Eddy DeSir) of Boston, Massachusetts, MaryAnn Burke (Joseph) of Phoenix, Arizona, Mornilyn Curtin of Scottsdale, Arizona, Virginia Dimalanta, Alfredo Dimalanta, and Arnold Dimalanta (Ana) all of Boston, Massachusetts. Leonard and Aida lived in Allston for over 30 years where they raised their children. He is survived by 14 grandchildren and a host of loved ones who will sorely miss his presence. Leonard was one of the founding team members of Project Athena, which was a joint project of MIT, Digital Equipment Corporation, and IBM to produce a campus-wide distributed computing environment for educational use. As a result of his successful work through Project Athena, he was instrumental in the eventual founding of OSF, the Open Software Foundation. After leaving OSF he began working at the United States Post Office and Jack Young Auto Parts. He was an avid reader of military, thriller, and mystery novels. His daily morning routine consisted of walking to Twin Donuts in Allston, ordering a medium black coffee with a cruller donut and reading the newspaper. Lenny was a diehard Boston sports fan, especially for his Red Sox and Bruins, right up until the final day. The wake be held on Friday, May 24, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Bell-O'Dea Funeral Home. The final viewing will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2019 from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at Bell-O'Dea Funeral Home, followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Mary of the Assumption Parish in Brookline Village.
