Keri Ann (Saunders) O'Brien, beloved wife of Timothy William O'Brien, of Newton Highlands, died suddenly on November 25, 2015. Keri was the loving daughter of Robert and Kathleen Saunders of Mattapoisett. Keri was born on November 13, 1970 in Cedar Falls, IA. She was a 1988 graduate of Pittsford-Mendon NY High School after attending schools in Kentwood, MI, and Plano, TX. She played soccer and volleyball and was a cheerleader, among other athletic pursuits. Keri was active in the Church of the Transfiguration Youth Group in Pittsford, NY and loved to sing and play her flute at church events. Following her 1992 graduation from the University of Dayton, Keri spent a year as a member of Chi-Rho Volunteer Corps in Connecticut, helping to run an after-school program for youth in New Haven, CT. She subsequently completed a Master's Degree in Business Administration at Boston University, with a concentration in public sector and non-profit management. Keri met Tim while working at the Boston Housing Authority. They were married in Mattapoisett, MA on October 12, 1996. She spent time living in Brighton, MA; Durham, NC; and Madison, NJ before settling in Newton Highlands in 2006. Keri is survived by her husband Tim, their children, Catherine, Nicholas, and Alison; her parents Robert and Kathleen Saunders; father-in-law and mother-in-law John and Robin O'Brien; brother Robert Saunders and his wife Alison Hedges; brother-in-law Jim O'Brien; brother-in-law John O'Brien and sister-in-law Jane O'Brien; sister-in-law Karen O'Brien; and five nieces and nephews. The lives of Keri and Tim centered in loving, encouraging and guiding their children in pursuing their education, spirituality, and passions, including school, church, music, reading, sports, drama, the outdoors, and Irish Dance. Keri had many passions that she pursued with curiosity, determination, and kindness, including her spiritual quest, her love of music, and her passion for social justice and community building. She was an engaging and eager communicator, a bright, smart, loving spirit. She will be missed for the remainder of our lives. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday, December 3, at Bell-O'Dea Funeral home, 376 Washington Street, Brookline. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 15 Saint Paul St., Brookline, MA, at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 4. Interment will occur at 1:00 PM at St. Anthony's Cemetery, North Street, Mattapoisett, MA (Interstate 195 Exit 19B leads to cemetery; go one thousand feet on North Street). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mil Milagros, a non-profit focused on empowering community women in Guatemala to feed and educate the children.
