Born on October 21, 1939 in Hamgyong Province in what is now North Korea, Dr. Kee Choon Park and her family relocated to Seoul just before the start of the Korean War, following her father's appointment to a teaching position there. During the war, her father was held as a political prisoner, never to be seen again, and her older sister passed away.

Dr. Park graduated from the prestigious Ewha Girls Middle School, High School, and College with a degree in education in 1963. After working at what is now Woori Bank, she immigrated to the United States in 1971 with less than $100 leaving her three-year-old daughter in the care of her mother and brother.

Her remarkable journey and achievements embody the essence of the American Dream, a story that could be the subject of a bestselling book or movie.

Dr. Park earned a Master of Education in 1976 and a Doctorate in Education in 1992 from Boston University. Dr. Park taught in the Chicago and Boston Public Schools before retiring early to take care of her grandson. Later, she returned to teach at her alma mater, Ewha Womans University, in the Department of Education, before once again returning to the U.S. to take care of her then two grandsons.

Dr. Park passed away peacefully at her home in Brookline on September 7, 2024, after a courageous seven-year battle with cancer. She is survived by her daughter Hon. E. Grace Park, son-in-law Joseph S. Hong, grandsons Joseph S. Hong, Jr. and Robert J. Hong, sister-in-law Young Park, and five nieces and nephews residing in St. Louis, New York, and Sydney, Australia. Her brother and sister predeceased her in the last two years.

Beyond being an educator, a lifelong learner, and fan of cruises, Dr. Park was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend to many all over the world. Her sense of humor, optimism, and outgoing personality left a lasting impact on her communities, especially among the Ewha alumnae and The Korean Church of Boston. Known as a "connector" and "life coach," she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held at The Korean Church of Boston in Brookline, MA on September 21, 2024 at 10:30 a.m with a burial and graveside service to follow at Newton Cemetery in Newton, MA.
