Obituary

Katharine N. Begien passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 6, 2023. She was 87. Kate will be remembered for her indomitable spirit, lively sense of humor and love of others. She was born on August 21, 1935 in Boston, Massachusetts, and attended Westover School and Smith College. Kate was predeceased by her husband Martin Begien. She and Martin spent nearly 50 happy years in Brookline, Massachusetts, where she was an active member of the community. Kate was dedicated to the well-being of children, and worked at a clinic for abused children at Children's Hospital. She was deeply committed to Trinity Church in Boston where she served on the vestry for many years and assisted in publishing a book of Rev. Spencer Rice's sermons. Perhaps her favorite role was that of grandmother and great grandmother. She was actively involved in the lives of her eight grandchildren. She is survived by Timothy and Leslie Fraser, Alec and Cristy Fraser, Laura and Tim Bryan, Mike and Christy Begien, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in her honor later this summer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Kate's name to support Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center online at http://mskcc.convio.net/goto/KateBegienMemorial or by check, made payable to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, mailed to Colleen Hanley, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Office of Development, PO Box 27106, New York, NY 10087.
