Obituary

Karen Nelson Bain, 79, of Brookline MA, passed away peacefully at homesurrounded by family on January 11, 2023.



Karen was born on December 3, 1943 to Lewis Robert Nelson and Evelyn Stoughton Nelson in Dumont, NJ. While Karen was in high school, she helped her father to build the family home in Falmouth, MA. After Karen graduated from Lawrence High School in Falmouth, MA in 1961, she attended college courses at Framingham State College.



Karen worked several jobs, including New England Telephone, before going on to hold a variety of administrative roles over 40 years with the Christian Science Church of Boston. Karen was an active member in the Order of the Eastern Star for decades, earning the positions of Worthy Matron of her chapter in 1971 and Grand Marshall of Massachusetts in 2014.



Karen was a strong, kind, compassionate, and outgoing woman who loved the beach. She enjoyed spending time with her family and truly took an interest in anyone she interacted with.



In 1962, Karen met John in Brookline, MA. Karen and John were married in 1964 and went on to have two children, John Boyd Bain and Robert Nelson Bain.



In 2012, Karen retired from the Christian Science Church, but was later asked to return for long-term temporary positions, and fully retired in 2021. In herretirement she enjoyed scrapbooking, spending time with her family, and helping run the family business.



Karen was predeceased by her parents, Lewis and Evelyn Nelson, and her son, John B. Bain. She is survived by her husband, John T. Bain of Brookline, son, Robert N. Bain and his wife, Kristin, of Brookline, sister, Barbara Lego of Orange, grandchildren, Ryan Bain and Wesley Bain of Chicopee, Emily Bain and Ethan Bain of Brookline, great-grandchildren, Venezia, John Ryan and Jaxson, as well as nieces and nephews.



Visiting hours will be held in the Bell-O'Dea Funeral Home, 376 Washington St., Brookline on Wednesday January 18th from 4:00 – 8:00. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Funeral Service and Interment will be private.
