June Hedy Lombard (ne Leshchynska) died peacefully at home in Boston with her family surrounding her after a long struggle with Alzheimer's and period of decline following a stroke in 2002. Loving wife of Peter A. Lombard for 65 years, she also leaves behind her cherished children and their spouses: her daughter, Lynette, and her husband, Tony Gant; her son, Peter, and his wife, Ann, and her grandchildren, Sarah and Julian. Her proudest achievement was her family and her children, Lynette who is a painter and Professor of Art at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, and Peter, who is an investment banker in Boston and lives in nearby Weston, MA. She also is survived by her sister, Eleanor Holmes, of Nanaimo Island, British Columbia, and her brother, Ray Leshynski, of Manassas, VA. Another sister, Janet Pearce, predeceased her. June, 90 years old, was born in Poland in 1925, the third child of Rufina and Leon Leshchynski. Soon after her birth, her family emigrated to Montreal, Canada, the city where June grew up and which she never tired of visiting. She graduated from Thomas D'Arcy McGee High School and attended The Sir George Williams College (now Concordia University) in Montreal. June moved to Boston in 1950 when she married Peter and worked at the American Academy of Arts and Sciences before her children were born. She relished reading, engaging in lively discussions on wide-ranging topics from art to politics and philosophy, most enjoyably around the dinner table, and listening to classical music. She and her husband entertained frequently and especially loved the intimacy of their close-knit group of friends whose friendship has endured over many decades. June loved to travel, particularly to her hometown of Montreal and to Europe. Until her stroke she and Peter for many years enjoyed spending a large part of every year at their home on the coast of Spain, where they had a close circle of friends. June was a devoted concert and opera-goer and supporter of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and was active in the English Speaking Union. June's love and devotion to her family and her spirit will be deeply missed and forever cherished by her family and friends who love and appreciate her so much. The family thanks profoundly the caregivers who enabled June to spend these last many years in the comfort of her home, with special thanks to Donna Humphrey and Suzanne Da Silva for their tireless devotion. The family will hold a memorial celebration of June's life at a later date.
