FITZGIBBON, John M. "Jack," 82 years old, of Brookline and Brighton passed away on November 26, 2015. Beloved husband of Marie (Alvino Garrone) Fitzgibbon and the late Doreen (Corcoran) Fitzgibbon. Loving father of Catherine (Fitzgibbon) Pollard of Jamaica Plain and cherished grandfather of Julia, Madeline, Honora and Mary. Jack is also survived by his brothers Thomas and Edward and sisters Catherine (McIver), Sheila (Fuller) and Eileen (Allen). Predeceased by brother Clarence "Bud" and sisters Nora (Powers), Joan and Mary. Jack was the son of John and Julia "Sheila" (Noonan) of Brighton and formerly of Cork, Ireland. Jack was an accomplished attorney who brought a traditional sense of pride, honor, loyalty and duty to his representation of clients. He believed and imparted to others that the law was a noble profession and fairness and justice were fostered by the maintenance of a sense of community among members of the bar. He loved to debate on any subject matter and to tell the tale of a good case well argued. He also mourned the passing of a time when, "you could carry your legal brief in a briefcase." Jack was an avid skier, growing his budding romance with beloved wife Doreen on the slopes of New Hampshire. He was also an avid sailor whose love of the sea was sealed by his service as an officer in the U.S. Navy. He liked to "raise the mainsail in salute to my more successful friends," as he cleared the tip of Logan Airport and made way for the Harbor Islands on his Thursday afternoon sail. He fostered his love of sailing and the Islands in his daughter Cathy, who, as an infant, napped in a cradle propped against the keel. Jack loved the Church in which he found strength and a connection to family and friends, both living and departed. It is also where he met his beloved second wife Marie, who shared the Church as the center point of life and family. The attention Jack lavished on the children of his extended family and wry sense of humor will be missed at Christmas gatherings, but his presence there and in the lives of those lucky enough to have known him will remain a fixture and an example of a life well lived. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Jack's name to Boston College, Office of University Advancement, Cadigan Alumni Center, 140 Commonwealth Ave., Chestnut Hill, MA 02467. Funeral from the Bell-O'Dea Funeral Home, 376 Washington St., BROOKLINE, Tuesday morning at 9:10 followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Brookline at 10:00.
