Obituary

ADAMS, Joan. Of Boston died in hospice in Tewksbury, MA on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the age 77. Beloved daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. John Adams Jr., she is survived by her sister Patricia Viscosi and husband Armand of Andover; her nieces Carolyn Viscosi Shirley and husband David of Manchester, NH, and Elaine Viscosi Marquis and husband David of Tewksbury; and grandnephew and grandnieces Carl and Talia Shirley and Katherine and Jessica Marquis. A graduate of Girls' Latin School, she received her bachelor's degree from Wheelock College and a master's of fine arts from Boston University. Joan was skilled in both watercolor and oil painting. She loved animals, especially horses and dogs. She volunteered with the Boston Mounted Police and the MSPCA and was an avid equestrian. She also loved figure skating and ballet, and enjoyed gardening and the many flowers she grew. Joan worked for 25 years at the Harvard Medical Countway Library. She was a lifelong resident of Mission Hill and was instrumental in the establishment of the Wigglesworth/Worthington Street Historical area. She spent many summers vacationing on Cape Cod. Visiting hours at the Bell-O'Dea Funeral Home, 376 Washington St. in Brookline, MA, on Tuesday, February 2 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass at Mission Church, 1545 Tremont St. in Boston on Wednesday, February 3 at 10:00 am, followed by interment at Holyhood Cemetery in Brookline, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the John Adams Professorship at Harvard Medical School Resource Development Office, 401 Park Drive, Suite 22 West, Boston, MA 02215.
