Janet 'Jan Peters' Nowosielski, formerly of Brookline, passed away peacefully after a brief illness. Janet is predeceased by her parents Mary Teresa Peters Nowosielski and Edward A. Nowosielski, and by her brother Peter. She is survived by her sister Nancy Horne (Jim) of Estes Park Colorado and her brother Paul Nowosielski (Kerry) of Summerville, SC. She has 6 nieces and nephews: MaryCatherine, Stacia, Annie, Helena, Michael and Ethan, all of whom she loved "more than". She was also a doting dog mom to her Yorkie, the ever popular Audrey Hepburn, who she lovingly referred to as "The Hep".
Jan Peters' singing career spanned decades and brought her numerous award including Improper Bostonian's Best Cabaret Act, the Independent Reviewers of New England's Best Female Cabaret Artist, and Bay Windows's Best Cabaret Performer. In 1999, she was a fellow of the Eugene O'Neill Cabaret Symposium.
In addition to her cabaret work, Jan performed throughout the country accompanied by ensembles ranging from intimate jazz groups to large swing orchestras and appeared at many of Boston's best nightclubs and hotels including a long residency at Club Café.
Noted performances included Mabel Mercer's 21st Anniversary Celebration at Lincoln Center in New York, The Cultural Center Theater in Port Charlotte, Florida, The Jazz On A Sunday Afternoon Performance Series in New Hampshire and Cabaretfest! In Provincetown.
Jan was a favorite with audiences and critics alike: "…the classic torch singer...a voice like fine wine...it is glorious." (John Amodeo, Cabaret Scenes, Bay Windows); "Jan Peters has scored another great success performing material she was born to do. (Jordan Rich, WBZ Radio).
Jan released 2 CDs: Somebody Come and Play and You Started Something.
