Obituary

NORCOTT, James J. Of Brookline on November 14, 2017. Devoted husband of the late Elizabeth J. "Betty" (Costello) Norcott. Beloved son of the late Joseph A. and Bridget (Slyman) Norcott. Dear brother of Mary A. Kelliher of Brookline and her late husband Joseph and the late Edward T. Norcott of Canton & Mashpee and his surviving wife Margaret "Peggy" Norcott and the late Genevieve Norcott of Andover. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and their extended families. James was a Veteran of WWII. He defended the US Coast and then served in Italy earning both the American Theater Ribbon and the EAME Ribbon. James also earned the Good Conduct Medal. After WWII, James became a Surveyor and worked for the Mass Highway Department, District 4 for 54 years, where he was a General Construction Inspector and the Snow and Ice Engineer for nearly 30 years. Among his many accomplishments, James directed the efforts to clear the roads after the Blizzard of 1978 and leveraged area snowmobile owners to supply blankets and food to the people stuck in their cars on Rte 128 while coordinating rescue efforts of many people during this historic storm. Visitation will be held on Saturday morning in the Bell-O'Dea Funeral Home, 376 Washington St., Brookline from 9:30 10:30 followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary of the Assumption Church at 11:00. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment Mt. Benedict Cemetery.
