Jaime Robert Carrillo

Jaime R. Carrillo, of Brookline, MA, and originally of Washington, D.C., was a theater artist and a visionary. Jaime did not just think outside the box. He thought as if the box didn't exist. He dreamed without limits and applied his creative insight not only to theater but to every aspect of his life.

Jaime was the beloved husband of Amanda Carrillo and a devoted father to their children, Max and Feli Carrillo, whom he loved with every fiber of his being. He also is survived by his mother, Gloria Carrillo, and his brother, Eric Carrillo, both of Washington, D.C.; his parents-in-law, Daniel and Louisa Tarullo of Newton, MA; his brother- and sister-in-law Michael and Elisabeth Tarullo and niece Emilia Tarullo of Seattle, WA; his aunts, uncles, and cousins; and many dear friends. He is pre-deceased by his father Jaime T. Carrillo and his aunt Gladys Huber.

Jaime was a proud graduate of Sidwell Friends School, Brandeis University, and the William Esper Studio. He acted professionally at SpeakEasy Stage, Shakespeare & Co., Classical Theatre of Harlem, The Flea Theater, and GALA Theatre, among many others. He was a founding director of feeT oF clay Theater Company in Washington, D.C., Firebrand Theory Theater Company in New York, and Bostonia Bohemia in Boston. He was an accomplished director and playwright, and he taught Fundamentals of Directing at Emerson College. Jaime was a wonderful teacher and mentor. He was deeply committed to elevating underrepresented voices in theater arts, especially indigenous voices.

Jaime made bold choices, always. He would go to a country knowing no one and return having made lifelong friends. He is gone much too soon, with so many adventures that should still have been ahead of him. He leaves an enduring imprint on the hearts and souls of all of us who love him.
