Hendrik Lawrence Knoess, 28, of Brookline, MA and Savannah, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on September 14, 2026.

Hendrik brought his brilliant smile, warm teddy-bear hugs, and loving personality with him wherever he went.

Hendrik was born in Brookline to loving parents and an older brother who raised him with a deep sense of curiosity and kindness. From an early age, he had a gift for making people laugh and a knack for bringing friends together, whether it was organizing hikes, hosting game nights, playing hockey, studying karate, or synchronized swimming to the Thriller soundtrack (yes, really, and he was proud of it) at his beloved Camp Becket.

He graduated from Brookline High School in 2016, where he loved playing hockey, lacrosse, and being part of the BHS community.

In 2020, he earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Florida, where he was the proud founding father of Six Sigma (if you know, you know, and if you don't, Hendrik would have happily explained it to you at length, probably more than once). He went on to become a systems engineer in the healthcare space. Outside of work, Hendrik was a devoted gamer, a die-hard hockey fan, and always up for music, concerts, and dinner out with friends.

He loved his time in Western Mass, visiting Germany, California, and Arizona to see his grandparents, catching live music, and trying every new tech app, video game, or new idea hecould get his hands on.

But more than his achievements, Hendrik will be remembered for how he made people feel, seen, valued, and loved. He was always there for friends going through a hard time, with an uncanny talent for showing up exactly when someone needed him.

Hendrik is survived by his parents, Teresa of Nashua, NH, and Christoph of Savannah, Georgia; his brother, Tim, and sister-in-law, Haley, of Dallas, TX ; his grandmothers, Mary Ann Dawson of Napa, California and Christel Knoess of Fuessen, Germany; along with loving aunts, uncles, and cousins, and a wide circle of friends who considered him family. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Lawrence Robert Dawson and Walter Knoess.

A celebration of Hendrik's life will be held on Saturday, October 24th, from 2–5 PM at Bell O'Dea Funeral Home, 376 Washington Street.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Camp Becket, where a scholarship in Hendrik’s name is being founded, in honor of Hendrik's generous spirit.
