Obituary

O'Keefe, Helen M. (Sorensen) of West Roxbury, formerly of Malden passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving children on July 30, 2025. Beloved wife of the late Ronald Paul "Ronnie" O'Keefe with whom she shared 54 years of marriage. Loving mother of Brian P. O'Keefe and his wife Christine of Westborough, William T. O'Keefe of West Roxbury, Ann Marie O'Keefe of West Roxbury, Robert J. O'Keefe of Mansfield, Maureen F. Cullen and her husband Kevin of West Roxbury, R. Paul O'Keefe, Jr. and his wife Katina Tsongas of Sharon and Kevin P. O'Keefe and his wife Laura Owen of Cambridge. Cherished and devoted "Nani" to 18 grandchildren. Dear sister of James Sorensen and the late Ann Coleman, both of PA. She is loved and will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Helen's family was her world.  She demonstrated how to be kind, compassionate and faith filled to all she knew and leaves that legacy to all who loved her.

Helen graduated from Malden Catholic High School and Emmanuel College. She received a master's degree from Boston College.  Helen was a scientist and taught chemistry for many years in Swampscott, Newton, Lasell Jr College and Natick High School.  Helen instilled a love of science in her students and used her wisdom and patience to get many through tough subjects.

Helen met the love of her life Ronnie in Malden while he was serving his funeral apprenticeship with Helen's cousins at Norton Funeral Home. They later settled in West Roxbury where they raised their children.  They filled the house with love and family.  No one was ever turned away, everyone was always welcome and treated like family.

Helen was a kind, generous soul and friend to all.  She lived a life of service - teaching and volunteering. She was a constant in the senior community participating in book clubs, knitting groups and classes at the senior center.

She was very active in St. Theresa's Church where she taught CCD and baptism classes but most important was her beloved choir. Helen spent decades singing in the choir where she built life long friendships and shared the gift of music with the parish.  Helen filled her life with music.  She loved hearing the Boston Pops especially on the 4th of July and enjoyed attending the symphony with her friends.
