Florence Mae Paige, aka "Diamond Flo," was born on December 1, 1913 in Boston, Massachusetts. Florence and the late Henry "Sonny" Paige grew up together in the same neighborhood. They were married on December 25, 1934. They had two children, Beverly and Errol, and were married for sixty years. Florence retired in 1978 after working at Filene's Department store for thirty years, where she was one of the first African American Sales Associates. She then decided to pursue her nursing dream and worked as a Volunteer at Mattapan Community Health Center. She was quickly promoted to Medical Records Supervisor, where she worked until retiring again. Florence made fitness a priority. She was an avid tennis player and could be found on the tennis court well into her eighties. She played competitively and won tournaments and trophies. At 102 years old, her day was not complete until she walked around her entire complex. She was a health care advocate for senior citizens, as well as a community activist. She received awards for her countless hours of volunteer work. Florence was a caregiver to family and friends. She loved gardening and grew her own flowers and vegetables. She will be remembered for the hand written letters she would send to those so very close to her. Florence passed away at Carney Hospital on September 2, 2016. Florence, known to family as "Grammie," was preceded in death by her daughter, Beverly Ann Paige and is survived by her son, Errol Stephen Paige. She will truly be missed by her Grandchildren: Carl Jr. and Theia Banks, Lisa and Gary Clark, Eve-Lynne and Charles Pickens, Derek and Allison Paige, Kimberly Banks, Rahsaan and Rachel Paige and Henry Paige; Her Great-grandchildren: Marc Banks, Eric Banks, Gemma Clark, Jodie Clark, Bryan Wilson, Candace Banks, Ryan Paige, Jordan Tuttle, Charles Pickens III, Sara Banks, Hahsaan Paige, Joshua Wilson, Briana Pickens, Caleb Tindall, Jadyn Paige, Madalyn Tindall, Gabriel Banks, Landon Paige; Cousin Brenda Jones; Her spiritual children and numerous family members and dear friends. Florence was a faithful servant of the Lord. Each Sunday, she attended church in her living room, watching Dr. Charles Stanley (In Touch Ministries). A Celebration of Life service to honor Florence will be held on her 103rd Birthday: Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 6:00 PM, Shawmut Community Church of God 600 Shawmut Avenue, Roxbury, MA 02118. Repass 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM VFW Post 1018, 500 Morton Street, Dorchester, MA. Florence will be laid to rest at Forest Hills Crematorium.
