Brookline – January 6, 2023 Peacefully at home, Faye Silver Mucha, 82, beloved matriarch of her family, devoted community member, and nurturer of all with her extraordinary culinary and baking talents. A resident of Brookline since 1967, dedicated member in many roles of St. Paul's Church for half a century. She leaves her husband of 55 years, Walter, three daughters, two sons in law, eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Completing the 1968 Brookline Town Census, she listed her occupation as domestic engineer. This said it all about Faye and yet at the same time couldn't begin to plumb the depth, breadth, and duration of that assertion. Beyond dealing with a household of six and then seven, there were the children's friends, other stray neighboring kids, casual and longer-term daycare, all of whom she fed and comforted with her cooking and baking. Every occasion, sad or celebratory demanded food and especially cookies, brownies or cakes made from scratch.

Faye's love of classical music resounded through the house from broadcasts and recordings; concerts and student recitals and especially singing in the St. Paul's Church choir filled her life. She motivated and nourished the choir members with hundreds of hot from the oven coffee cakes on Sunday mornings. Gardening and bird watching at the Muddy River were a recurring joy, and always, always a jaunty uplifting greeting to friends and strangers alike.

Devotion to household, church, schools, and gardening still left energy and stamina to takeover and grow the children's morning newspaper delivery routes when they "aged out". Over the course of twenty eight years, very early in the morning, in all weather and temperatures, Faye delivered more than three million individual copies directly to doors and upper floors.

More recently Faye spent time helping aging neighbors with shopping and medical appointments. Finally, struck down by cancer and a stroke, she was lovingly cared for at home by granddaughter Tanisha, daughter Nicole, her devoted husband Walter, and hospice services of Good Shepherd Community Care.

A celebration of life well lived will take place on Saturday April 22nd at 10:00 AM at St. Paul's Church, 15 St. Paul Street Brookline, to which all are invited. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to The Massachusetts Audubon Society.
