Erika Antonia Carey-Barrett of Brookline died peacefully at home surrounded by family and close friends on July 6, 2022. Throughout her over two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer she focused on spending quality time with her children, William and Annabelle. Her love of her children is a flame that will never be extinguished. She is survived by her children, her loving husband, Brian Barrett; her parents, Joseph Carey and Dorothea Hass; her sister, Erzsebet Carey; her grandmother Natalie Carey; her nephew, Jayden Daniel; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. Erika was born in Szikszo, Hungary in 1988. She was adopted when she was five years old by her American parents, Joseph and Dorothea. Erika was a shining, creative spirit who loved fashion, sentimental novels and movies. She attended Brookline schools, where she made life-long friends, Bridgett MacFadden Naddaff, Leanna Lande and Tanya Vertkin. A wake for Erika is being held at the Bell O'Dea Funeral Home at 376 Washington St, Brookline, from 3–8 pm on Thursday, July 14. The Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 am on Friday, July 15 at All Saints Parish, 1773 Beacon Street, Brookline. Following the service there will be an interment at Walnut Hills Cemetery, Brookline.
