Obituary

Mealy, Elvira A. (Gaita), formerly of Norwood, also a longtime resident of Brookline, passed away peacefully in Wrentham at the age of 93 on January 4, 2026. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Edward C. Mealy in 2017 after 60 years of marriage.  Daughter of the late Salvatore and Teresa Gaita (Gravalese).  She is survived by her sons Stephen of Florida, Kevin and his wife Shelley of Walpole, and daughter Christine Misiura and husband Jim of Batavia, Il. She is also survived by her grandchildren Patrick, Matthew, Nicholas, and Madeline, who remember her as Nannie. Devoted sister to her late brothers Henry Gaita and his late wife Ann, and Philip Gaita and his wife Leslie. Born in Everett on February 23, 1932, Ellie moved to Brookline in 1938. She was a 1950 graduate of St. Mary's High School in Brookline. She then worked at Shawmut Bank in Boston until 1960. Ellie dedicated her time to being a mom and homemaker, as well as a Cub Scout den leader and CCD teacher. Ellie and Ed moved to Norwood in 1993. She had a lifetime love of animals, made terrific spaghetti sauce, and doted on her grandchildren. Ellie and Eddie were inseparable and loved nothing better than taking rides to different areas together. A special thank you to all her caretakers and nurses at Maples in Wrentham who showed her great care and compassion during her time there. Ellie was thankful for all her many wonderful friends and neighbors in both Brookline and Norwood.

Visitation will be held in the Bell-O'Dea Funeral Home, 376 Washington St., BROOKLINE, on Saturday morning January 10th  from 9:00 – 11:00 with a prayer service at 11:00. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment Walnut Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Ellie's memory made would be appreciated to the MSPCA.
