Elizabeth A.
(Donovan) Carroll
Feb 11, 1938 — Feb 20, 2026
Brookline
With deep love and sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Elizabeth (Liz) Carroll, who left us peacefully on February 20, 2026. Born in Boston, Liz lived a life defined by faith, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family. She was a guiding light to her children, a loyal friend to many, and a source of comfort to all who knew her.
Liz was the beloved wife of the late George F. Carroll and daughter of the late Mary H. Donovan (McCarthy) and Dr. Robert J. Donovan. She is survived by her daughters Jean Kane (Brian) of Brookline and Catherine Marquis (Stephen) of Framingham, her granddaughters Elizabeth and Lillian Kane, and her siblings Mary Louise Ruth (Vincent), Clare Schwelm, and William Donovan (Claire). She also leaves behind many dear nieces, nephews, and friends.
Predeceased by her siblings Katherine Cullen, Dorothy MacDonald, Father Robert C. Donovan, Frances McManus, and Edward D. Donovan, Liz was a retired secretary of the Purchasing Department for the Town of Brookline. She was a resident of Sherrill House in Jamaica Plain, where she was an active member of the resident advocacy group. Liz was formerly a lifelong resident of Brookline and spent her later years in South Yarmouth.
A member of Holy Cross Academy class of 1955, Liz was known for her love of books and hosting dinners with family and friends. Her love was boundless, her faith unshakable, and her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to either the Sherrill House, Jamaica Plain; St. Mary's Building Fund, Brookline; Sisters of the Holy Cross, Notre Dame, Indiana; or a local food bank.
Visitation will be held in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 5 Linden Pl., Brookline on Saturday morning, February 28th from 10:00 – 11:00 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment will be private.
