TAXIDIS, Efmia (Costas) Of Brookline passed away peacefully on February 14, 2025. She was 102.

Efmia (known by her siblings as Marianthe) was born in Jersey City, NJ in 1923 to Stratis and Stratego Konstantinakos (anglicized to Costas).  She returned to her ancestral home in Loggastra (village near Sparta, Laconia, Greece) in 1929.  In her youth, she worked as a nanny to a local prominent family and tended to the family farm.  She volunteered to assist the local resistance (as a message courier) to the German occupation in 1941-43.  Married in 1948 to Nicholas Taxidis, she gave birth to her only son, Peter (1958), and eventually returned to the United States with her family in 1962.

After returning to the States she lived in Freeport, NY (1962-66), Boston's South End (1966-68), and Brookline since 1968.  She worked in the garment district in Boston in 1966-1975 as a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.  She was a member of the Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Cambridge.  She enjoyed baking (particularly Greek pastries), knitting and sewing, and tending to her garden.  She loved the great outdoors and connecting with family and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Efmia was predeceased by her sisters Anastasia Konstantinakos, Evgenia Robotsis, Stella Veziris, Mary Wilde and her brother, Peter Konstantinakos.

Efmia leaves her son, Peter, his wife Andrea and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held privately at Walnut Hills Cemetery. Donations in memory of Efmia may be made to Sherrill House in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts.
