Of Brookline, formerly of Lunenburg, died on March 1, 2017, at the Armenian Nursing Home, of complications from Alzheimer's Disease. He was the beloved son of the late George and Kathleen O'Brien of Northampton, Massachusetts; and the loving brother of George, Robert, and Dorothy, all of whom predeceased him. He leaves his devoted wife of 52 years, Gloria (Salamy); his son Christopher and his wife Jennifer along with their five children, of Brookline; his daughter Lisa and her daughter in Bethesda, Maryland; as well as several nieces and nephews. Ed spent 35 years as a group controller/auditor with Sears. He was responsible for the financial functions of several stores during his tenure. At one point, he headed a team which implemented and oversaw the training of Sears store personnel in several northeast cities for the "price look up system " (PLU), new to retail stores at the time. After retiring in 1990, Ed devoted his time to family and those things he truly loved: fishing, traveling, gardening, wood carving, furniture making, exercising and walking with friends, and puttering in his Sears-stocked workshop. Ed carried life beautifully and gently. He was kind, understanding, and quick-witted. He was a positive thinker who was never afraid to initiate in life. His family love and loyalty always shone. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 4, at 1:00 p.m., at St. Mary's Church, 5 Linden Pl., Brookline.
