Dorothy "Dottie" Ward. Of Brookline and Chatham, a homemaker and former employee of the Brookline School Department, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 25th, 2017, from natural causes. She was 81. Dottie was raised in Brookline, attended Brookline Public Schools, and was an active and well-loved graduate of Brookline High School, Class of 1953. Dottie is predeceased by her husband James Ward and her brother Robert Owens. She is survived by two sons and two-daughter-in-laws, Craig & Ellie Ward of Dedham, and Dean Ward & Carrie Ansell of Venice, California; three grandchildren, Lila & Elsie Ward of Venice, California and Colin Ward of Dedham; and one brother, Kenneth Owens of Brookline. She was also loved by many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Funeral from the Bell-O'Dea Funeral Home, 376 Washington Street, BROOKLINE, Saturday morning at 9:10 followed by a Funeral Service at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Brookline at 10:00. Visiting hours in the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 7:00. During her time in Brookline, Dottie was active in fundraising for Brookline High School's athletic department and was elected to be a Town Meeting Member. She co-founded The Brookline Emergency Food Pantry at St. Paul's Church, where she also served on the Vestry and as a Junior Warden. Upon retiring to Chatham, she became an active member of the Chatham Ecumenical Council For The Homeless.
