HARSHMAN, Dorothy M. (Berger), long-time resident of Brookline MA, passed peacefully at the age of 92 on February 20, 2023. Born in Attleboro, MA June 9, 1930, she was the beloved daughter of the late Max and Doris (Simmons) Berger, loving sister to the late Max Berger Jr., cherished mother of her son Jack E. Harshman of West Roxbury.

Dorothy was valedictorian of North Attleboro High School graduating class of 1949, and before embarking on a 40-year career as an executive legal secretary and paralegal, she taught English for a year in Cuba, where she attained lifelong Spanish fluency. Returning to the U.S., she made significant contributions to several Boston-based legal firms, culminating in paralegal work for her former employer and beloved friend, the late Leonard F. Clarkin, Esq.

A passionate baseball fan since childhood, Dorothy was a true student of the game, and also made many friends in and around the sport, including her late husband Jack Harshman (Sr.) and her dear friend Ed Figueroa. Dorothy co-wrote wrote his biography Yankee Stranger, published in 1982 and followed by a publicity tour highlighted by Dorothy honored to throw out the "first pitch" at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan.

Dorothy was a 30-year resident of 100 Centre St. in Brookline, where she continued her love of literature by serving as librarian for many years, and made many friends, with special remembrance of her beloved gentleman companion of later years, the late Stanley Rothenberg.

A private graveside service will be held at Plainville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy's memory may be made to MSPCA, 350 S. Huntington Ave. Jamaica Plain, MA 02130.
