Obituary

Deborah Lynne Collins, 67, died at home November 25, 2018. Born August 10, 1951 in Spokane, Washington, her family settled in Brookline, Massachusetts in 1959. Debby attended the Edward Devotion School, where she began studying viola, and went on to Brookline High School. She spent her senior year in London, England, with her family. In London, she attended the Dame Alice Owens School, played in the London Youth Orchestra, and explored London and surroundings. After returning to Brookline, she attended the New England Conservatory of Music, spending summers as a Fellow at the Berkshire Music Center in Tanglewood and the Yale University Summer School of Music and Art in Norfolk, Connecticut. After graduation, she spent a year in the professional program at Juilliard in New York City. As a free-lance musician, she performed with various orchestras and opera companies in New York, often touring around the country. After 20 years, she returned to Brookline and worked in Health Care Policy at the Harvard Medical School. Debby loved to travel. Besides visiting family in British Columbia, Canada, she often vacationed in France, Portugal, or Italy. Her favorite destination was Sicily and, from there, the Aeolian Islands. She made her last trip to the Aeolian Islands two years ago with her sister Mary. Debby is survived by her mother, Joan, two sisters, Catherine and Mary, all in Brookline, and her brother Leo and sister-in-law Bonnie, in Barrington, Illinois. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel of the First Church Boston, 66 Marlborough St., Boston on Saturday January 5, 2019 at 2:00 PM.
