Ann Marie was born on December 17, 1940 in the Bronx, New York. She was the third of five
children born to Esther and Thomas Waldron. She grew up in a home filled with Irish music with
a devotion to the Catholic Church. After Ann Marie graduated from Saint Pius Commercial High
School in 1958, she felt called to religious life and entered the order of the Sisters of Saint
Dominic in Blauvelt, New York in 1960. During this time, she graduated from Dominican College
of Blauvelt with a BS in Education in 1966. In 1967, Ann Marie felt called by God to leave
religious life, and she pursued the vocation of becoming a Catholic school teacher. She lived
and worked in the Bronx, and she earned her Master's of Education from Manhattan College in
1973. The following year, she met Henry Dong, and they were married on November 1, 1975.
They subsequently moved to Montvale, NJ to raise their two children, Jonathan and Danielle,
who were born in 1976 and 1977.
Ann Marie continued to work as a teacher with a specialization in reading/language arts at Saint
Ann School in Nyack, NY and Saint Margaret School in Pearl River, NY. Ann Marie was a
lifelong learner and voracious reader. With the help of her husband and children, she learned to
love the New York Giants and New York Yankees. In 2009, with the arrival of the first of four
grandchildren, Ellie, Brendan, Madison, and Connor, she became Nannie, her most cherished
role. Ann Marie radiated light and love toward everyone, but the joy she took from her
grandchildren was truly special. Even when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in her
later years, the love she brought to the world was never diminished. She moved to Brookline,
MA in 2017 to be closer to her daughter. On October 22, 2022, she died peacefully in her sleep.
Ann Marie will be remembered as a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and Nannie,
and she will be missed by everyone who had the privilege to love her.
Ann Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Dong; sister, Catherine Waldron
Meyer and brother-in-law Alfred Meyer; and brother James Waldron. She is survived by her son,
Jonathan Dong, his wife Katherine Porter, and their children Madison Elizabeth and Connor
Henry; her daughter Danielle Dong, her husband Phillip Haberkern, and their children Ellie
Maria and Brendan Conrad; brother Patrick Waldron and his wife, Judy; sister-in-law, Noreen
Waldron; brother Marty Waldron; as well as her nieces, nephews and their children in the
Waldron, Meyer, Dong, and Ho families.
A funeral service will be held at All Saints Parish, 1773 Beacon Street, Brookline MA on
Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 11:00, with a reception to be held at the home of Phil and
Danielle immediately after. All in attendance are welcome.
