Obituary

Allan J Sutherland, age 89, of Brookline, MA passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026.  Born on February 5, 1937 in Boston, MA  to his parents George and Christine Sutherland, a life-long resident of Brookline, MA where he met his loving wife Ann (Johnson) Sutherland of 60 years.  Loving father to Thomas and his wife Phulmalati Sutherland of West Roxbury and Brian and his wife Tracey Sutherland of West Roxbury, and grandpa their three children, Connor, MacKenzie and Addison,  Brother to George Sutherland and Uncle to Sallie Vlahos and Jennifer Makary.Allan graduated from Brookline High School where he excelled as a three sport athlete in football, hockey and baseball and was an inaugural inductee into their Hall of Fame. He later attended Boston State and graduated from Boston University with a Masters degree in 1967.  Allan worked as a physical education teacher for 31 years at Franklin High School.  There, he enjoyed teaching and coaching football,  Indoor track  and tennis, mentoring many students and players.  In his retirement Allan enjoyed spending winters in Key Largo, FL and visiting his heritage in Scotland with his wife Ann. Allan was so proud of his three grandchildren Connor, MacKenzie and Addison and could always be found on the sidelines of their sporting events, whether on the field or the ice. He will be dearly missed by all who were lucky enough to know him, especially his best buddy Rudy. Remembrance events will be private, per his wishes.
