Alicia Tyler, 44, of Boston, Massachusetts, formerly of McCook Lake, South Dakota, passed away while surrounded by loved ones on October 3, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer. A celebration of life will be held at The Lucy Stone Chapel at Forest Hill Cemetery 171 Walk Hill Street, Boston, Massachusetts, on October 10 at 12:00 p.m. Public visitation and viewing will take place prior to the service from 10am-12 noon.
Alicia grew up in McCook Lake, South Dakota. In school she took part in various activities, including her love of basketball. She went on to graduate with an English degree from the University of South Dakota before earning her Master’s degree in Architecture at the University of Colorado (Denver).
Alicia was creative, loving to doodle, craft, and write. She lived an active life, whether it was her love of running (she ran several marathons and half marathons), playing ultimate frisbee, or going for a hike. She also loved to read, a hobby that served her well whether she was traveling all over the US and world, or nestled up under a cozy blanket at home.
Professionally, Alicia was a dedicated architect whose passion centered on designing income-restricted housing, helping create accessible and meaningful spaces for those in need. Her work reflected both her professional talent and her deep commitment to community. Alicia got to do this work as a part of the team at ICON Architecture, a Boston-based, women-owned design firm that was more than a place to work. ICON was like family, caring for Alicia in ways that went over and above, especially in recent years. Alicia’s family will forever be grateful for the ways ICON has continued to care for them.
The most important and meaningful job Alicia ever had, though, was being a Mom. Alicia loved her two children, Bodie and Sophia, more than anything else in the world. Whether she was reading them stories, taking them on adventures, or cheering them on as their own hobbies and passions develop, there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for them.
Alicia was a fierce and beloved presence in the world that will be greatly missed. A friendly, caring, and warm presence wherever she went, she was known for her persistent hope and positive outlook on life. She will forever be remembered as a mom, wife, sister, daughter, and friend who loved and was loved, and who would do anything for those she cared about.
Alicia is survived by her beloved husband, Sean Harrity; and her children, Bodie and Sophia, who were the center of her world; her mother, Debbie (Randy) Erickson Miller; her siblings, Josh (Shannon) Tyler, Jen (Kris) Osterloh, and Aaron (Lupita) Tyler; step-sisters Amanda (Joe) Ingels and Aleah (Joe) Ruden; and countless friends and family.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Marlene and Elgene Erickson.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that contributions be made to her children’s 529 college savings plans. Bodie: https://go.fidelity.com/1C06D6 Sophia: https://go.fidelity.com/NinfNP
