Alfred W.
"Al" Barrett, Iii
Sep 14, 1948 — Jan 2, 2024
Alfred W. Barrett, III "Al" passed away peacefully in his home on January 2, 2024 in Weymouth, Massachusetts at the age of 75.
Al was born and raised in Brookline, Massachusetts on September 14th, 1948, and is the son of Alfred and Loretta (Plett) Barrett II. Al is survived by his daughter, Stephanie E. Gelman and her husband Edward Gelman. Al lived in Naples, FL and Madison, CT before settling back home in Weymouth, Massachusetts.
Directly after graduating Brookline High School in 1966, Al proudly joined the U. S. Navy and served on the USS Foresstal from 1966-1969. He returned home to begin work for Mass Bay Transit Authority (MBTA) and spent his entire career working for the MBTA starting as a bus driver on Route 57 and eventually working his way up to Chief Mechanical Officer for the MBTA. Following his retirement from the MBTA, Al worked as a Mass transit consultant for Accela Rail out of Philadelphia.
Al had a passion for the ocean, classic model cars, power boats and his Nikon 35mm. He frequently combined his joys together by taking photographs of boats in or dry docked by the ocean, or cars like the Clark Gable Rolls Royce on display in Plymouth. He was quick with a joke and enjoyed a good game of backgammon.
The funeral will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts, on Tuesday January 9th at 1:30 PM
